40 Days of Faith and Hope in Action

Posted Posted in Events

Do you have plans for Lent yet? Why not consider joining us in a 40-day journey of Faith and Hope in Action? Ash Wednesday is 2 1/1 weeks away and this marks the beginning of Lent. On Sunday, March 2 the devotional booklets “40 Days of Faith and Hope in Action” will be available at church for you to take home.

40 Days of Faith and Hope in Action (Devotional Journey promotion video for Lent). from Alliance Compassion on Vimeo.

“40 days journeys are recounted throughout the bible; whether it’s Noah’s Ark, where it rained forty days and forty nights, Moses’ forty days with God on the mountain before he delivered the ten commandments, or Jesus fasting forty days in the desert before starting his earthly ministry. We are excited to share the 40 Days of Faith and Hope in Action. It will be an opportunity for you to perhaps try something new, or return to something you’ve already done — a season of focusing on important issues that matter to God’s heart.”

Syrian Refugee Relief

Posted Posted in Events

I lay on the street pretending I was dead for five hours because the snipers would shoot anything that moved..”

Jordan_Dec201359-300x156This is just one example of the troubling stories shared by Syrian refugees as they recount their experiences of the civil war before fleeing to safety in neighbouring countries.

The living conditions of the refugees are terribly disheartening. Whether an extended family of 12 living in a one-room rented space, multiple families sharing one small apartment or young widows and their children in a tent within a refugee camp, life is difficult and seems hopeless. They have left jobs, homes, friends and family— with whatever they could carry— and now rely on the kindness and generosity of others. Many have experienced this care through Alliance churches in Lebanon, Jordan and within Syria.

You’ve heard about the Syrian crisis on the news. But what are we doing about it? Click here to read more about the work of Alliance Justice and Compassion in Syria.

Hockey & Wings!

Posted Posted in Events

Hey Sports Fans,

Happening alongside our card-making party this Saturday will be our Hockey & Wings night featuring the Toronto Maple Leafs versus the Montreal Canadiens!

There will be wings, and if you haven’t yet seen the one-handed-wing technique, prepare to be dazzled.  There may even be a no-handed wing technique…

We will be watching on the big-screen in the basement classroom by the stairs.  Program starts at 6pm!

If you’re attending the card-making party, feel free to drop in!

In either case, see you at church on Saturday!

Ride for Refuge 2013

RIDE for REFUGE  OCTOBER 5 in WINNIPEG!

The Ride for Refuge is a cycling fundraiser that supports over 165 charitable partners who in turn support thousands more who are displaced, vulnerable or exploited – refugees, orphans, widows, street kids, the urban poor, homeless, victims of human trafficking – the list is extensive. This fall, thousands of other riders and volunteers in Canada and the USA will raise $1,000,000 for some of the most marginalized people in our world.

We are partnering with Defend Dignity and The CHAI Centre to help them continue to advocate for exploited women and children in Canada.

Would you help us help them? Would you join us and our great team? Come join in the fun (and sweat) by clicking on the link below:

Join Pastor Joel’s team to raise money for Defend Dignity here.

hustle for hunger

Let’s again lace up our runners in support of Agape Table! On Saturday Sept 14 the race will wind through beautiful Assiniboine Park, and after 3K, 5K or 10K, there will be breakfast and awards for participants. If you don’t know, Agape Table is housed just down the street from our church and all proceeds will go towards supporting the soup kitchen and the work done there. Please check out the link here for more details and registration: http://www.events.runningroom.com/site/?raceId=9101

Please see Issy for more details. We can talk about carb-loading, my favourite part of running 😉

Community Garden Update

Posted Posted in Events, News

The community garden is growing!!

IMG_20130604_170026_024
This year we have expanded to have 5 boxes to provide the Agape Table with some fresh veggies for their soup in the late summer and fall months. We planted 2 boxes of tomatoes and 3 boxes of beans.

The expansion could not have happened without great partners and volunteers: T&T Soils donated 2 boxes of top soil and  Home Depot donated all of our supplies and even offered to build us more boxes.  As well, our team of volunteers are committed to caring for the garden throughout the growing season.

Let’s pray that God would provide great weather for the remainder of the growing season.
