Peru 2014 STM Update! (July 2nd)
Hello everyone! We are here!! And so excited to have finally made it! We completed our 40 hour journey via airplanes, (scary!) taxis and buses to arrive at the Inca Link compound in Trujillo. Right away we were put to work doing construction. So far our work has included wheel barrowing loads of debris to pack down a road, macheteing thorny bushes and clearing the field. It’s only been a day and a half and our muscles are getting sore! Thankfully we’ve also had the opportunity to meet some of the kids from the Victor Raul neighbourhood and played a pretty intense game of po-po-pulpo (oly-oly-octopus), nobody got hurt this time! It was so great to see the kids and see the joy on their faces after a few games and a Bible lesson.
We’ve been eating our fill of variations of rice, chicken and potatoes, the kitchen ladies (Patty, Denise, Brenda and Mama) have been spoiling us! After long hours of construction, we have been polishing off our plates; the poor dogs are going hungry! God has been taking good care of us so far, so we ask for your continued prayers to keep us healthy and safe. Besides a few thorn injuries, God has been keeping His protective hand over us.
We’ve also been having a great time getting to know each other better and better, through games of floor hockey, soccer and basketball, our competitive natures have been coming through but we’ve been having a blast! Our morning devotionals and end of day debriefs have been a great opportunity for us to reflect together and share our expectations and “God moments”.
Although we’ve only been here for a day and a half, it feels like we’ve really gotten into a good rhythm with each other and the interns & staff here. We are so excited for the upcoming days as we visit the other ministries and continue our construction work. We can really see God’s work here in Trujillo and we feel so blessed to be a part of this grand plan! Please keep praying for us and reading our updates! We love you!
Love, Issy
